Children's Services
• Smart Start Program is North Carolina’s nationally recognized early
childhood initiative designed to ensure that all children are healthy and prepared to succeed when
they enter kindergarten. Smart Start funds a Child Care Health Consultant position through the
health department to provide child care providers with assistance, support and expert information
regarding the health and safety of children in their care.
Some of the services they can provide are:
Assisting caregivers in writing policies and procedures to support health and safety practices.
Reviews immunization records and establishes health care plans for children with special needs.
Connects caregivers and families with community health care resources and experts.
Assess health needs, safety needs and practices in the child care setting.
Offer hands-on support through telephone advice or on-site visits.
Provide health education and wellness programs for caregivers, children and parents.
Care Coordination for Children (CC4C) - This program provides families with
children ages 5 and under with services and resources to meet the family's needs through home visits,
doctor visits, telephone calls and personal contact. Participants must qualify with a care manager before receiving services.
