Children's Services
Child Health Clinic
For children up to 21 years of age. Physical exams, medical services, and health and nutrition counseling are provided. Charges for the clinic are based on income and appointments are required.
Frequently asked questions:
Q: My family recently moved to Franklin and we have not established ourselves with a doctor yet. My child takes medication for asthma. Can we get treatment for my child's asthma from the Child Health Clinic?
A: Our Child Health clinic is for basic well care screening exams for children. We do not provide treatment for medical conditions such as asthma. We recommend that you obtain a local physician who can provide treatment for and follow-up of your child's medical condition. You may be eligible for free or low-cost insurance through Medicaid or Health Choice. You may apply through our office or the Department of Social Services.

Q: Will my child get any shots at the Child Health Clinic?
A: A registered nurse will review your child's immunization records to determine if any shots are due. Bring a record of all immunizations your child has had to the clinic with you. There is no charge for immunizations that are required for school admission, through 18 years of age.

NC Health Check
This program provides free health care for Medicaid eligible children, ages 0 - 20. A Health Check Coordinator helps parents locate health care providers and referral services to ensure that each child receives all necessary health services at age appropriate intervals.
Smart Start
This state program serves children ages 0-5 by providing services that help each child be healthy and ready to succeed when beginning school. Daycare providers and families of young children may receive educational programs, referrals, and consults from Public Health Nurses.
