Position: Human Services Planner / Evaluator II
Macon County Department of Social Services

Salary range $50,744 - $76,114

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for coordinating program functions of a cross section of Social Services programs and special initiatives. The position provides assistance to Director and supervisors in planning and evaluating program performance service gaps and developing strategies to fulfill service needs with available resources.

The position is responsible for assisting management in areas of: program development, planning, monitoring, evaluating, and modifying services; establishing priorities and implementing program objectives; and development and management of resources.

The position assists the Agency Director to formulate performance measures, monitoring outcome and performance objectives and conducting evaluations. The position includes responsibility for assessing unmet service needs and initiating resource development efforts to address these needs. Identifying outreach needs and strategies across programs.

Specialized staff development is a responsibility of this position specific to increasing management staff capacity.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
(Planner) - General knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration and planning; an ability to communicate effectively with professional and administrative personnel; and an ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting policies and procedures.

(Evaluator) - Considerable knowledge of the process involved in program evaluation methodology. General knowledge of theory and source literature in the subject area(s). Some knowledge of the use and capabilities of manual and electronic data processing systems in gathering, storing, retrieving, and analyzing data. Ability to write and present reports and information in an appropriate and effective manner.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
(Planner) - A master’s in public or human services administration or a human services programmatic field, preferably with course work in human service planning and one year experience in human service program planning or administration; or graduation from a four-year college or university and three years of administrative or consultative experience in a human service program; or an quivalent combination of education and/or experience.

(Evaluator) - A master’s degree in psychology, sociology, or social work and one year of experience in research and evaluation using statistical methodologies in human service programs; or graduation from a four-year college or university and three years experience in research, evaluation and statistical application in the human service field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

SELECTION PROCEDURES:
Structured interview using work sample exercises and skills test will be administered. A screening committee will review applications to select the best qualified applicants to be interviewed. Applicants admitted to the interview will be given a written test for simulated tasks to perform typical to those of a Planner/Evaluator.

Position: Environmental Health Specialist
Macon County Public Health Center

Annual Salary $34,345

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Duties include promotion of public health through education, surveillance, consultation, inspection, and enforcement of state and local environmental health laws and regulations. The majority of work will be in the on-site wastewater program. Some work may include inspection of foodhandling establishments, public swimming pools and migrant farm housing to determine compliance with current sanitation standards.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduate from a 4-year college or university with 30 semester hours of course work in physical or biological sciences and 2 years exposure in environmental health; or 4-year or Master’s degree in environmental health from a program which is accredited by the National Accreditation Council for Environmental Health Curricula of the National Environmental Health Association and one year of experience in Environmental Health. Applicant must be eligible for registry as an Intern with the N.C. Board of Sanitarian Examiners.

SPECIAL REQUIRMENTS:

  • Prefer an Environmental Health Specialist with an R.S., authorized in On-Site Wastewater.
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license.

Position: Public Health Nurse II - School Nurse
Macon County Public Health Center

Compensation
This position will be for 10 months of the year.
Salary range $33,119 to $49,680 based on experience/ credentials.

Description:
Responsibilities include partnering with the other school nurses to assure that school health nursing services are delivering in assigned schools. The program will include scheduling health screenings, reviewing health and immunization records, developing health care plans for children with chronic illnesses, provision of classroom teachings on health issues and coordination of efforts to eliminate disease and infestation problem areas.

    Requirements :
  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a BS Degree in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation and one year of public health nursing experience.
  • Occasional evening and/or weekend work required.
  • A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing or dual compact state license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
  • Certification in School Health Nursing or ability to obtain certification within three years of employment.

Position: Detention Officers
Macon County Sheriff’s Department

Salary Grade 24: :$22,567 - $33,850

Full-time and Part-time Detention Officer positions are available with the Macon County Sheriff’s Office. Candidates must possess a High School Diploma, a North Carolina Driver’s License and be at least 21 years old. Candidates must be available to work 12 hour shifts both day and night.
